Planning success for Avonmouth House student project

news

Southwark planning committee unanimously approved our mixed-use student housing project in Elephant and Castle last night.

Transforming a site in the heart of Elephant & Castle, this student housing led proposal creates a distinctive new backdrop for Newington Gardens and the surrounding neighbourhood.

The 7 and 14-storey building has a defined base accommodating commercial or educational uses and a wider amenity offer for students and the local community. The 219 student residential rooms above have access to a roof terrace with views over Newington Gardens.

Stepped in form, the articulated façade creates a strong frontage framing the park and the rich palette of brick tones picks up on the nearby traditional brick and stone buildings, creating a solid and textured response to the context.

A new pocket park and improved public realm will generate a pedestrian friendly environment drawing people towards the development and into Newington Gardens beyond.
