Tamworth Yard

A UNIQUE ARRANGEMENT OF HOMES AROUND A CHARACTERFUL CENTRAL YARD

In 2019, Stitch was appointed by a private client to design a residential scheme for a highly constrained site in Croydon’s Church Road Conservation Area. Our concept was to optimise the capacity of the site by creating a central yard space around which all the homes would be arranged. This lush courtyard is accessed from the street via a pedestrian gate and pathway and provides vertical circulation to the homes above. A community space opens directly onto the street bringing life to this forgotten corner of Croydon’s town centre. This small ‘oasis’ development reinterprets the local character with a strong gable facing Tamworth Place, and textured brick tones drawing from the local fabric of the conservation area.
